Hairstylist at U&K Salon

U&K Salon is a neighborhood hair salon located between Park Slope and Gowanus in Brooklyn, New York.

We are looking for an experienced hairstylist who is confident working independently with clients and wants to build long-term relationships in a welcoming, professional salon environment.

Our salon focuses on precision haircuts, beautiful hair color, and personalized client care. With over 500 five-star Google reviews, we have built a strong reputation in our Brooklyn community.

We welcome both established stylists and experienced professionals who want to grow their clientele. Our salon attracts new, returning, and referral clients, providing opportunities to build a loyal customer base.

Who We're Looking For

We are looking for a licensed hairstylist with 5 or more years of professional salon experience preferred.

The ideal candidate is comfortable handling appointments independently, from consultation and haircutting to styling and finishing.

We especially value stylists who enjoy working with different hair types, textures, and styles and who prioritize quality, consistency, and client satisfaction.

Experience with professional hair coloring is highly valued. Familiarity with Asian hair or Japanese-inspired haircutting techniques is a plus, but not required.

Candidates with fewer than five years of experience may also be considered if they demonstrate strong technical skills and the ability to work independently.

Qualifications

• Valid New York State Cosmetology License required.
• 5+ years of professional salon experience preferred.
• Ability to perform haircuts and consultations independently.
• Experience working with different hair types and textures.
• Professional hair coloring experience preferred.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Reliable, punctual, and professional.
• Ability to create a positive experience for every client.

Schedule & Work Environment

We offer flexible scheduling, allowing stylists to choose their working days and hours. Full-time and part-time availability are both welcome. Availability on Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays is especially appreciated, but not required.

We are a small, supportive team that values professionalism, attention to detail, and a calm, comfortable atmosphere for both clients and stylists.

Compensation

This is a 100% commission-based position.

• Commission: 40–50% of service sales, depending on experience and qualifications.
• No guaranteed hourly rate.
• Earnings vary based on client bookings, services performed, and sales.
• Tips are separate from commission.
• Compensation details will be discussed during the interview.
