Hair Stylist Assistant

Responsibilities

• Assist stylists with hair styling, shampooing, blow-drying, and applying hair treatments such as extensions or color
• Prepare clients for their appointments by consulting on desired looks and ensuring comfort
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards across all workstations, tools, and equipment in accordance with health regulations
• Support with retail sales by recommending hair care products, makeup, nail care items, and accessories to clients
• Manage front desk duties including scheduling appointments using salon software like MINDBODY and greeting clients warmly
• Help with store management tasks such as inventory organization and restocking supplies
• Provide mentorship to new team members and contribute to a positive team environment through effective communication and collaboration

Skills

• Knowledge of hair extensions, coloring techniques based on color theory, and hair styling trends
• Experience with salon software systems such as MINDBODY for scheduling and client management
• Strong understanding of sanitation practices specific to cosmetology and barbering services including sterilization of tools like straight razors
• Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with diverse clients
• Ability to upsell retail products like eyelash extensions, makeup applications, nail care items, and hair accessories effectively
• Basic retail math skills for handling transactions accurately
• Familiarity with store management procedures and front desk operations in a salon setting
• Skills in hair threading, eyelash extensions application, and nail care are considered a plus
• Ability to mentor junior team members while maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety
